Program 04

Support for the mother. Support for the baby.

A warm, non-stigmatising pathway that connects maternal wellbeing with infant sensory, motor, communication, and developmental support.

Overview

Beginning together means caring for the relationship.

The early period after birth can bring joy, adjustment, uncertainty, exhaustion, and emotional strain. Mothers and babies both benefit from supportive relationships and timely professional guidance.

This program is intended to bring together low-barrier information, gentle developmental activities, referral guidance, and a clear human next step when additional support is needed.

Two connected audiences

  • New mothers and birthing parents who need emotional support.
  • Babies who need sensory, motor, and communication opportunities.
  • Partners, families, and professionals supporting the dyad.

Screening and support

Screening is not diagnosis.

Validated tools such as the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale may be used by qualified professionals as part of a broader conversation. A screening score should never be treated as a diagnosis by itself.

If you complete a screening questionnaire, please discuss the result with a qualified healthcare or mental-health professional. Do not use an online result to label yourself or delay care.

Infant development

Small everyday interactions matter.

Look and respond

Follow the baby’s cues and respond with warm facial expression and voice.

Move and explore

Provide safe opportunities for movement, positioning, and sensory exploration.

Talk and connect

Use turn-taking, songs, gestures, and simple language during routines.
